Electronic finance (e-finance) systems have become integral to online shopping by enabling rapid, accessible, and increasingly seamless digital transactions. However, their effectiveness depends on balancing four interconnected dimensions: security, privacy, trust, and usability. This article examines the role of e-finance systems in online shopping, with emphasis on digital payment infrastructure, payment gateways, authentication, data protection, consumer confidence, and user experience. Security mechanisms including encryption, tokenization, multi-factor authentication, risk-based authentication, and artificial intelligence-assisted fraud detection are discussed in relation to the protection of financial transactions. At the same time, extensive collection and processing of consumer information for transaction management and personalization create privacy concerns involving transparency, consent, and data control. The article highlights that stronger security measures may increase transaction friction, whereas greater personalization and convenience may intensify privacy risks, demonstrating the need for adaptive rather than uniform system design. Trust emerges as an important outcome influenced by perceived security, responsible data practices, platform reliability, and transaction experience. Emerging approaches, including biometric authentication, privacy-enhancing technologies, intelligent risk assessment, and artificial intelligence, provide opportunities to strengthen protection while maintaining transaction convenience. Overall, sustainable e-finance systems require an integrated, risk-responsive, and user- centred framework that simultaneously addresses technological protection, responsible information management, consumer trust, and usability. Such a balanced approach is essential for developing resilient and trustworthy digital financial ecosystems as online commerce continues to expand.
