At present, large organizations, such as those on Fortune 500 lists, are trying to manage the integration of multiple systems — namely, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems — in order to allow for more efficient and real-time data transfers between these systems and their associated data access methods. This article highlights IBM’s consulting practice as providing architectural guidance along with technical execution support on the large-scale integration of clients’ Salesforce CRM, Oracle ERP Cloud, Oracle E-Commerce and SCM Cloud systems through a case example involving Integration Cloud (OIC). Since there are hundreds of clients involved across several industries, including manufacturing, financial services, health care, and retail, the discussion also highlights the author’s role as Lead Technical Engineer providing project leadership on a complex and high-risk, platform-wide upgrade of OIC from Generation 2 to Generation 3 across multiple client enterprise systems, resulting in no unplanned downtime during the upgrade. Additionally, the discussion describes the requirements for developing EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) flows, implementing General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) security, and developing Intellectual Property that is now in IBM’s Global Accelerator Library. The integration efforts documented in this article support significant business benefits, including 60%+ improvement in manual processing time; improved data security; and a scalable framework (Integration Blueprint) to support further expansion of enterprise integration globally.
